Gentrification is happening in the Crenshaw (Los Angeles, USA) area. How can the rising generations contribute to the change vs. solely being affected by it? Recently honored as one of "Los Angeles' Most Influential African American Movers and Shakers" by Reverend Al Sharpton's National Action Network - LA, Starlett Quarles is a passionate, long time Community Advocate for the progress of Black Los Angeles and urban communities across the Country.

We don't see things the way they are, we see things the way we are. Five-time Grammy winning artist, poet, songwriter and producer, Malik is the Director of Arts & Culture for Hip Hop Caucus. At Hip Hop Caucus, Malik directs organizational and campaign strategies that utilize arts and culture to reach communities and move them to action.

See a problem. Want to change it? Paradyse teaches us how to propose change by writing a bill. A 16-year old senior at Lawndale High School, Paradyse is the President and Founder of P.O.P.S. (Pain of the Prison System) and Life (ZOE) Club on her high school campus.

I'm the exception to the rule because I am successful...why is there an exception in the first place? Tyree is a graduate of Temple University with a Mas- ter's degree in Pan African Studies. Currently, he is a Professor of Africana Studies at California State Uni- versity Dominguez Hills.

Human solutions to the homeless crisis in Los Angeles. Community advocate for over 17 years, Reba has been dedicated to using her real life experience as a consumer of homelessness and mental health services, to improve how these systems can be responsive and accessible to those who need them most.

Youth have hustle. High school drop out rates are increasing therefore, decreasing chances to make a living wage. Jeffery talks about how he turns youth hustle into vocational training & economic power.

Problem = living in a food desert. Solution = using technology to solve human problems. Born overseas in India and growing up in the South Bay, Suresh found his love for design last year.

Let's get back to cooperative economics where we own, we work & we're worker owners. Member of the LA Union Cooperative Initiative (LUCI), Niki earned a MBA from Nanyang University in Singapore including a sustainability certificate at the MIT Sloan School of Business.

 

2015 - Changes

A contemporary art dealer and advisor with a gallery space in Leimert Park, Papillion has been instrumental in initiating the Leimert Park Renaissance, a resurgence art movement. Papillion believes art to be a tool for change in transforming and bridging together communities all over the world.
